Dental Age Estimation Using the Demirjian Method: Statistical Analysis Using Neural Networks

In children and adolescents, dental age estimation is performed with the development of teeth. Various statistical analysis methods have been used to determine relationship between maturity develop an accurate method calculation. This study attempted apply a neural network model for in evaluated its applicability. 1196 panoramic radiographs patients aged 3–16 years, 996 200 were randomly classified into training test sets, respectively. The mandibular left teeth was using Demirjian's method, backpropagation algorithm derived errors 100 each male female as sets. addition, multiple linear regression conducted on same set, error calculated by applying it set comparing model. model, mean absolute (MAE) root squared (RMSE) 0.589 0.783 subjects 0.529 0.760 subjects, MAE RMSE 0.600 0.748 0.566 0.789 When developmental stage, results those conventional methods. study’s approach expected be useful estimating ages children.
